Totally Frustrated



Glen,

Sorry about having to create a new sign-on name, but when I went to the site to log in, I could not remember my password and found no "Forgot Password" link to click on. Hence I have another name.


Glen, I need to find a program, and (I HOPE IT IS SITEFRAME) that will allow me to let my members write stories and poems, and allow other members to review one another's work via a rating system that also lets them leave a comment or review. I want to encourage all members to help fine tune one another's works.

I also need to be able to award my members for who is the TOP TEN or BEST author of the month.

I am using SiteFrame now, and can not figure out how to allow my members to use a HTML Editor ... I am getting the hits, but most of the complaints from my members and would be members is that they want the Editor and the rating system before they care to get too involved in a writers community.

I have a lot of great ideas to offer my members, but I need to offer the basics first. If SiteFrame is not what I should use, is this something you might consider building for pay? Is there another system I could use to do all I need?

The best example of what I am looking for is already implemented on Fanstory.com.

I have reached a point of frustration. Please consider any way you can help.

Apologies in advance if I miss something.

  • There is a password reset function; in some of the template sets, it's linked to from the user's page. It could be added to the login page, too, if you like.
  • Siteframe 5.x currently has ratings, and comments, and lets people review work. It does not have a "top-rated" or "top-ten" function, but it's simple enough to do and I'm planning on adding it promptly if there's enough demand.
  • I'm not sure how easy/difficult it would be to add a rich-text editor to the older versions of Siteframe. Probably not too bad; most of them require a javascript include in the header part of the page, and some require a call to an initialization function for each textarea to be formatted.

Thank you for the reply. I am at a crossroads ... because my members are wanting more and more and I can no longer use the Siteframe I have unless I can figure out how to add a HTML Editor. I downloaded the same editor you used here, but I do not know how to call it or the code needed to call it into action. I really am satisfied otherwise with the old SiteFrame. I am having more and more people join, and I feel like I need to provide the added features for them to stay and participate. I used your program for Authors and Writers, and really do not need the photo end of it.

Basically writers want to display their works, and they want others to review their work and write a critique on it. This enables the author to fine tune his work of art and gives him/her more confidence to try again. If they do not know what they are doing wrong as a writer, they simply can not become a seasoned writer.

So I hope SiteFrame will work for theses reasons ... to help others GROW.

I will keep watching as you proceed and I will HOPE and PRAY that you add the rating system.

So far Glen, you are the Boss of all those writing programs for the world to use (for FREE)! Thanks for all your work, and for all your kindness!

Well, it doesnt seem to rate my writers correct. When someone comments or rates someone, it only shows on the commentors page that they have rated. The one being rated has nothing on their file and can not see any credit for their work by the rateing member. Plus it comes back a blank page.

I don't think I can figure out how to transfere all this website that has taken me sooooo long to build to the new system without losing most of my members work.

I am too old to learn this I think LOL. I appreciate all you have done with SitFrame for all of us. I think I thought it was going to be like the old format but more stuff.

BTW ... great idea ... the tea shirts!

Oh - so you want to rate MEMBERS, and not their writings. Interesting.
